2011 National Gymnastics Day/World Record Attempt Fact Sheet
What: Gymnastics clubs across the country are joining forces to break the world record for most simultaneous handstands to celebrate this year’s National Gymnastics Day. On Sept. 17, at exactly 1 p.m. ET, gymnasts, families, friends and enthusiasts in gymnastics clubs nationwide will kick up their feet to break the record, raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and celebrate “The Year of the Handstand” and National Gymnastics Day.

Format:
All handstand participants must be “feet up” at the same time across the country, precisely at 1 p.m. ET - according to the countdown ticker at www.usagym.org/handstand.
At DeVeaus, we are planning to join forces with clubs across the country to break the handstand world record. After the Handstand World Record attempt, we will have an open gym, including: trampoline bouncing, “minute to win it” and carnival games,” Louie the Shark” inflatable slide, Ben and Ari’s putting green and spinning wheel for prizes, and Raffles for private lessons and Ben and Ari’s Family Fun passes. Donations to the Children’s Miracle Network will be accepted as payment for open gym. Donate as much as you wish.
Record History The current handstand record is 2,402, set in 2005 by Victorian gymnasts outside Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia, to promote the 2005 World Gymnastics Championships. This broke the record previously set by residents of Indianapolis, Ind., in July 2005 with a total of 1,072 simultaneously-held handstands as part of the run-up to the 2005 Visa Championships.
Each year, USA Gymnastics celebrates National Gymnastics Day to build awareness of the sport and funds for a good cause. Since 2001, gymnastics clubs across the country have raised more than $1.4 million for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. The funds raised are distributed to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals in the club’s community.
